The Freedom Delta measures how many years closer to financial independence you could get by relocating from a high-cost city to a lower-cost destination. It uses geographic arbitrage — the FIRE community strategy of moving somewhere cheaper to make your savings go further and retire sooner.
The calculator projects two net worth trajectories side by side: your current path (with US-average taxes and cost of living) and a pivot path (with the destination's tax rate and cost-of-living multiplier). Both assume a 7% annual return and a 4% safe withdrawal rate.
For example, a 30-year-old with $100K saved contributing $2,000/month might reach FI at age 52 in the US. Pivoting to Southeast Asia (0.35x cost of living, 15% tax rate) could move that to age 38 — a Freedom Delta of +14 years gained.
Available regions include Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America, Western Europe, East Asia, and the Middle East, each with realistic tax and cost-of-living presets based on popular expat destinations.
